FAQ
Questions, answered.
Navarathna Gold & Diamonds was established in 2001 on the main road in Alakode, Kannur, and has remained on the same street ever since. Over the last 25 years we have grown almost entirely through word of mouth, serving three generations of many local families for their weddings, births and festivals. That longevity is built on one principle: 100% hallmarked purity and transparent pricing, every single time.
Yes. We are a government-approved, licensed jeweller. Every gold ornament we sell is BIS 916 hallmarked and carries the central-government HUID (Hallmark Unique ID) stamp, which you can independently verify. Our diamonds above 0.18 ct come with an internationally recognised IGI certificate detailing the cut, colour, clarity and carat. We are happy to show you the hallmark and certificate for any piece before you buy.
Absolutely. Bespoke jewellery is one of our key specialties. You can bring a reference photo, a family heirloom to reimagine, or just a rough idea, and our in-house master artisans (karigars) will craft it for you. You choose the certified diamonds or metal and purity, we share a design and an estimate up front, and most custom pieces are ready within a few weeks depending on complexity.
24K gold is 99.9% pure. Rich in colour but too soft to hold a setting or survive daily wear, so it is mainly used for coins and investment bars. 22K gold is 91.6% pure (hence the “916” hallmark), with the remaining 8.4% made up of alloy metals like copper or silver that give it the strength and structure fine ornaments need. For diamond jewellery we often use 18K (75% pure), which is harder still and grips the stones more securely.
Yes. Every diamond we stock is sourced through ethical, conflict-free international channels that are compliance-checked under the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, which prevents the trade of diamonds used to finance conflict. Alongside the ethical sourcing, each qualifying stone carries an independent IGI grading report, so you know exactly what you are buying and where it came from.
No. You are always welcome to walk in during our hours (Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM). That said, we recommend booking ahead if you are planning a wedding purchase, want to browse our premium bridal sets, or would like to discuss a custom design, so that a dedicated specialist can give you their full attention without a wait. You can book in seconds over WhatsApp or by phone.
We offer a 100% lifetime exchange on gold you have purchased from us, valued at the current market rate of the day (with wastage and GST excluded, as per standard industry practice). For cash buybacks, the gold’s purity is first confirmed using XRF spectrometer validation so you receive a fair, accurate price. Bring your original invoice where possible. It makes the process faster and smoother.
